Cape Coast Tour

Tour Price:

€214 without Accommodation

Drive from Accra to Cape Coast for a day of history and nature. Your first stop is Kakum National Park, the second largest national park in Ghana, home to many plant and animal species. After a hike of about 20 minutes, walk the canopy walkway built in 1995 by two Canadians and six Ghanaians. The suspension bridge is 350 meters long and 11 to 40 meters above the ground. See the forest from above, among birdsong and butterflies. Next, visit Elmina Castle, the oldest European building south of the Sahara, built by the Portuguese in 1482. It was first a warehouse for trade goods exchanged between Europeans and Africans, and later became a dungeon for enslaved people when the focus shifted from trading goods to trading people. This is where it all started. Then visit Cape Coast Castle, the youngest of Ghana's three slave castles, yet the most significant in the history of slavery. It was built at the peak of slavery to hold enslaved people taken through the door of no return to the "new world." It is also an important site for Emancipation Day, when the remains of two descendants of those taken through the door of no return were brought back symbolically through that same door, welcoming all people of the diaspora back to Ghana and the continent on behalf of ancestors who never had the chance. Includes: Transportation and fuel, guide support, entrance fees, activities listed in the itinerary, bottled water, hotel pickup and drop off in Accra.
