Day 1: Arrival - Addis Ababa City Discovery
Arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, where you will be welcomed by a ZayVoyage guide and transferred to your hotel. After a short rest, begin exploring the vibrant capital of Addis Ababa with visits to the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the famous fossil “Lucy,” the historic Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the bustling Merkato Market, one of Africa’s largest open-air markets. Continue to Mount Entoto for sweeping panoramic views of the city.

Day 2: Fly to Semera – Journey to Lake Afrera
Take a morning flight to Semera, gateway to the dramatic landscapes of the Danakil Depression. Travel by 4x4 through the Afar Desert to the remote shores of Lake Afrera. Explore the surrounding salt flats, observe traditional salt harvesting by Afar communities, and relax with a swim in the warm mineral-rich lake.

Day 3: Dallol Geothermal Wonders – Erta Ale Volcano
Visit the remarkable Ragad Salt Fields where vast salt slabs are cut and transported by camel caravans. Continue to the surreal geothermal landscapes of Dallol, known for its vivid mineral formations and colorful hydrothermal pools. In the afternoon, journey to Erta Ale Volcano, one of the world’s few volcanoes with a persistent lava lake. After sunset, hike to the crater rim to witness the glowing lava below.

Day 4: Erta Ale – Mekele – Tigray Highlands
Descend from the volcano and depart the Danakil Depression, traveling through dramatic landscapes toward Mekelle. Continue to the breathtaking Gheralta region near Hawzen, known for its ancient rock-hewn churches carved into towering cliffs.

Day 5: Gheralta Rock Churches – Journey to Adwa
Spend the morning exploring the spectacular cliffside churches of the Gheralta Mountains, including the famous Abuna Yemata Guh, dramatically perched high on a sandstone cliff, followed by visits to Maryam Korkor and St. George Church (Gheralta). Later, travel to the historic town of Adwa.

Day 6: Adwa Battlefield – Return to Addis Ababa
Visit the legendary Battle of Adwa site, where Ethiopian forces achieved a historic victory in 1896 that preserved the country’s independence. After exploring the area, transfer back to Mekelle for a flight to Addis Ababa.

Day 7: Fly to Lalibela – Sacred Rock-Hewn Churches & Wellness Experience
Take a morning flight to Lalibela, home to Ethiopia’s extraordinary UNESCO-listed Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela. Spend the day exploring these remarkable medieval churches carved directly from volcanic rock. In the late afternoon, enjoy a wellness experience featuring a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony followed by a relaxing herbal steam bath or spa treatment inspired by local healing traditions. Attend an evening church service for a deeply spiritual cultural experience.
Overnight in Lalibela

Day 8 & 9: Lalibela – Addis Ababa – Departure
Visit the remaining churches of Lalibela in the morning before flying back to Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner featuring traditional Ethiopian cuisine and cultural dance before your transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your international departure.
